D’tigers Dismantle Silverbacks Of Uganda In Afrobasket

Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball national team, D’Tigers, recorded their second successive win in Afrobasket 2015, coasting to a comfortable 98-59 victory against debutants Uganda.

Chamberlain Oguchi continued his impressive outing in Rades, notching up 30 points and eight rebounds, with Al-Farouk Aminu complimenting with 14 points.

Proceedings was halted for over two minutes (2.17secs) in the final quarter after Stanley Okoye missed what could have been the dunk of the tournament and ended up smashing the backboard. An hour-long break – to replace the backboard – followed before the west Africans closed out an emphatic win.
The Ugandans have now lost all of their two matches at the tournament with the Central African Republic awaiting in their final group match on Sunday. Uganda’s Stephen Omwony finished with a team-high 20 points.

The Silverbacks had their best run for just the opening 35 seconds of the match, before Oguchi siezed initiatives.
Uganda converted just 48 percents of their efforts from the free-throw line and 31 percent of their field-throw attempts; much lower than Nigeria’s 77% to 48% free-throws to field goals differential.

D’Tigers will be back on Sunday in the long-awaited Group A cracker against hosts and defending Champions, Tunisia, who take on the CAF later on Friday.

Big Brother Africa 2015 cancelled

It seems Africa’s number one reality TV Show Big Brother Africa may not hold this year following speculations that the organizers of the show, Africa Magic and Endemol have failed to get sponsorship for this year’s edition of the show.

The Manager of Multichoice Ghana, Anne Sackey confirmed to peganews that they at Multichoice Ghana have received notice from MNET .She said though they did not give them any reasons as to why they will not be doing the Big Brother this year, but then, she personally thinks it’s due to sponsorship constraints.

Disappointing news for Big Brother Africa fans.

Emirates Cup preview: Arsenal favourites despite awful record & injury problems

The eighth edition of the Emirates Cup kicks off this weekend, with hosts Arsenal looking to win their second piece of preseason silverware this month.

Arsenal lifted the Premier League Asia Trophy last Saturday, beating Everton 3-1 in the final of the Singapore-based event, with goals from Theo Walcott, Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil.

Arsenal Prepares '£40m bid' for Karim Benzema

If  report making the rounds is anything to go by, Karim Benzema may be putting on the red and white colours of Arsenal next season as the gunners are set to table a  £40million bid for the Real Madrid hit man.

Arsenal Manager has already signed signed Petr Cech this summer from Chelsea and would be looking to add another high profile forward to his ranks in the mould of Benzema in other to challenge for the title.

The Frenchman has long been linked with a move to the Emirate stadium and the Sun reports that a deal is likely to go through this summer with negotiations to commence next week.

It is still unclear if the forward who scored 22 goals in 46 appearances for Madrid last season is in the plans of new Manager Rafa Benitez with reports suggesting that he could look in the direction of Gareth Bale or Christiano Ronaldo as a striker.

If the deal pulls through, Benzema would be the third marquee signing in as many years, following the arrivals of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez last two seasons and last season respectively.

Arsenal Launch New Away Kit

Arsenal football club of England have launch their away kit for 2015/2016 football season.

The gunners as they are fondly called unveiled the gold and blue kit at the Espalanade Outdoor Theatre in Singapore on Tuesday night before a 550 club supporters in Singapore.

Arsenal will wear the new PUMA away kit in their pre-season opener against the Singapore XI tomorrow.

NFF Confirms ‘agreement’ With Oliseh As Keshi’s Successor

The Nigerian Football Federation on Wednesday confirmed they have an agreement with former skipper Sunday Oliseh to replace Stephen Keshi as Super Eagles coach.

The Nigeria Football Federation sacked Keshi on Sunday saying he lacked “the required commitment” following a row over whether he applied for the vacant Ivory Coast manager’s job.

Turan Joins Catalan Giants Barcelona

Barcelona have completed signing of Turkish International, Arda Turan, on a five-year contract from Atlético Madrid for an initial fee of £24.1m (€34m).

Turan 28 was reportedly the target of the Premier League champions, Chelsea, but decided to stay in Spain by swapping Atletico Madrid for the Catalan giants Barcelona.

According to a statement from Barcelona, there is an agreement which stipulates that the Turkish captain will not be able to play an official game for Barcelona until January 2016 due to a transfer ban imposed by Fifa for breaching rules over the signings of underage players.

Turan deal is also coming in the midst of Barcelona presidential election campaign presided over by a special commission, which had to approve the transfer of the former Atlectico Madrid enforcer. The commission has an unusual clause in place which states that the winner of  the election which is billed for July 18 has the option of selling Turan back to Atlético less 10% of the fixed fee within two days.

Turan joined Atlectico Madrid in 2011 for a reported fee of €12 million and went on to make 127 appearances helping the team to the 2013 La Liga Title.

Arsenal Unveils New Puma Kit for 2015-16 season

Arsenal football club of England has launched its new Puma kit for the 2015-16 season billed to kick off on Saturday 8 August.

The new home kit launch took place at a parked event outside the Emirate stadium on Monday night  amidst cheers from supporters who turned out in their large numbers to witness the occasion.

Arsenal great Thierry Henry was on hand to help launch the new kit which has a blend of red and white, the famous colour of the north London club.

Santi Cazorla, Nacho Monreal, Hector Bellerin, Tomas Rosicky and Danny Welbeck joined Henry to help reveal the new kit, which Arsene Wenger will hope his side are successful in next season as they aim for more major honours.

Alves signs new Barca deal

Dani Alves put an end to speculation about his future when he signed a two-year extension to his deal with recently-crowned European champions Barcelona on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old Brazilian defender's contract was due to expire on June 30, but he came to an agreement with Barca officials for the extension through to 2017, with the option of a third additional season.

Alves, who joined the Catalan club from Sevilla in 2008, has gone on to appear in 343 matches for Barca, more than any other foreigner in the history of the club.

During that time he has won 19 titles, including five La Ligas, three Champions Leagues, three Spanish Cups, two European Super Cups, four Spanish Super Cups and two Club World Cups.

He forms part of the group of seven players that were in both of Barca’s treble winning squads: the latest completed in Berlin with victory over Juventus on the weekend; and that of his first season, 2008-09, when he was forced to sit out the European Cup final in Rome against Manchester United through suspension.

Liverpool Signs Milner on Free Transfer

Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign England midfielder James Milner from Manchester City on a free transfer.

Milner 29, will join the Reds immediately his current contract at the Etihad expires on 1 July - subject to passing a medical.

The versatile midfielder who has won 53 caps for England joined City from Aston Villa in 2010 after being signed for £26m by former Blues manager Roberto Mancini.

The former Newcastle United and Leeds player who made his Premier League debut at the age of 16 in 2002 went on to have 153 appearances for Manchester city scoring 18 goals in the process.

He won 2 Premier League titles, an FA cup and one league cup in his 5 years stint at the Etihad stadium

Arsenal Wins 12th FA Cup Title in Style

Arsenal Football club of England made history as the most successful English club side to have won the English FA Cup for a record 12 times after defeating Aston Villa FC 4-0 at Wembley on Saturday.

The gunners as they are fondly called successfully defended the trophy they won last season against Hull City albeit in a more easy way this time around.

Goals from Theo Walcott, Alexis Sanchez,Per Mertesacker and Olivier Giroud ensured that Aston Villa 19 year wait for a major silverware continues.

The victory also makes Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger the most successful manager in the modern era of competition having won it for the sixth time for the North London side.

The victory at Wembley capped a fine season for the gunners who also qualified for next season UEFA Champions League having placed third 3rd behind Chelsea and Manchester City on the Barclays Premiership log.

Buhari Appoints Ogbonnaya Onu as SFG

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Ogbonnaya Onu as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

The news of Onu's appointment broke out on Twitter on Sunday afternoon through APC situation room timeline.

Onu's appointment makes him the first cabinet member of President Buhari since he was sworn in on May 29.

It would be recalled that Ogbonnaya Onu was the National Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and was the first executive  Governor of Abia State from February 1992 to December 1993.
