Friendly: England Turn Down Eagles

The English Football Association has ruled out playing an international friendly with the Super Eagles in the near future.

Nigeria Football Federation President Amaju Pinnick was at Wembley Stadium in London on Tuesday for a private meeting with FA Chairman Greg Dyke.

One of the key points discussed at the informal meeting was the possibility of both countries facing each other in an exhibition game before the end of 2015.

‘’The discussions included reference to Mr Pinnick’s appreciation for English football and his desire to foster closer links between the NFF and The FA,’’ The English FA stated on its official website.

‘’Although there are no plans in the foreseeable future for a senior men’s international between England and Nigeria, it was agreed to keep dialogue open between the countries. ‘’

The Super Eagles last played England in a friendly on November 16, 1994, and the Europeans won the game 1-0 thanks to a goal from skipper David Platt.

Two days ago, Amaju Pinnick had mooted the idea of both countries playing a friendly in October but The Three Lions have two crucial European Championship qualifiers against Estonia and Lithuania in that month.
