Guinea has qualified for the quarter finals of the Africa cup of Nations holding in Equatorial Guinea at the expense of Mali after both teams were separated by drawing of lots.

Guinea and Mali had finished level in Group D after they drew all three pool matches 1-1

It is the first time lots will be used to decide a team's qualification in the tournament since 1988, when Algeria benefited at Ivory Coast's expense.

Ivory Coast had finished top of group D with 5 points after defeating Cameroon 1-0 in their last group game but Guinea and Mali settled for a 1-1 draw and have to be separated by drawing of lots.
