Serena Williams wins sixth Australian open title

World number one Serena Williams has won her sixth Australian open after outclassing Maria Sharapova in straight set 6-3 7-5

The American who vomited during the first set recovered to beat Sharapova in a pulsating final and made it 19th major singles title.

Williams who is 33 years of age despite feeling unwell won the tie in one hour and 51 minutes and confined Sharapova to her 16th straight in their meetings.

It would be recalled that Serena Williams last won the Australian open in 2010 after defeating Justine Henin 6–4, 3–6, 6–2 .

This triumph has now made her surpassed the achievement of Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert in the all times singles title.
